Centrolene antioquiensis is a special type of frog known as the Antioquia giant glass frog. It belongs to the Centrolenidae family, often called "glass frogs" because some of them have skin so clear you can see their insides! This frog lives only in a specific part of Colombia, South America.

About the Antioquia Giant Glass Frog

The Antioquia giant glass frog was first described by a scientist named Gladwyn Kingsley Noble in 1920. It's called "Antioquia" because it was discovered in the Antioquia region of Colombia. These frogs are quite unique, and like all glass frogs, they are known for their delicate appearance.

Where This Frog Lives

This amazing frog is found only in the Central Mountain Range of Colombia. This means it is endemic to this area, which means it lives nowhere else in the world naturally. You can find it in departments like Antioquia, Caldas, and Tolima Department.

It lives high up in the mountains, between 1,850 and 2,450 meters (about 6,000 to 8,000 feet) above the sea. This is a very specific kind of home for them.

Its Mountain Home

The Antioquia giant glass frog makes its home in special places called sub-Andean forests. These are forests found on the lower slopes of the Andes Mountains. They usually live in the plants and trees right next to clear mountain streams. These streams are very important for the frogs, especially for laying their eggs.

Why This Frog Needs Our Help

Sadly, the Antioquia giant glass frog is facing some challenges. Its home is threatened by things like water pollution. This pollution often comes from farming activities nearby. Also, forests are sometimes cut down, which means the frogs lose their natural living spaces. Scientists are working to understand and protect these special frogs so they can continue to thrive in their mountain homes.
