Chad L. Coleman is an American actor born on September 6, 1967. He is well-known for his roles in popular TV shows and video games. He played Dennis "Cutty" Wise in the HBO series The Wire from 2004 to 2008. He was also the voice of Coach in the video game Left 4 Dead 2 in 2009.
Later, he became famous for playing Tyreese in the AMC series The Walking Dead from 2012 to 2015. He also appeared as Fred Johnson in The Expanse and Klyden in The Orville. More recently, he played Bruno Mannheim in the superhero drama Superman & Lois.

Early Life and Education
Chad L. Coleman was born in Richmond, Virginia. When he was young, he was removed from his parents' care. He then lived in a foster home for a while. After that, his grandmother raised him in Richmond.
As a teenager, he enjoyed track and field sports. However, a leg injury made him focus on acting instead. He went to Virginia Commonwealth University on a scholarship for his first year. Then, he left college to join the U.S. Army. He served from 1985 to 1989, working as a video cameraman.

Early Roles and Voice Acting
One of his first major roles was as Dennis "Cutty" Wise in the HBO series The Wire. His character was a former criminal who tried to change his life. In 2002, Coleman played O. J. Simpson in the TV movie Monday Night Mayhem.
He also had a guest role in the TV series Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. Coleman also lent his voice to the character Coach in the video game Left 4 Dead 2. In 2009, he acted in a play called Joe Turner's Come and Gone on Broadway. He also starred in a Norwegian TV series called Buzz Aldrin, What Happened To You In All The Confusion?.
Television Series Appearances
Coleman appeared in several TV shows as a guest star. He was in an episode of In Plain Sight and Lie to Me. He also played the character "Z" in five episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia between 2010 and 2019. In 2011, he joined the cast of the sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter as Gary Miller.
From 2012 to 2015, Coleman played Tyreese in The Walking Dead. His character was a recurring role in the third season. He became a main cast member in the fourth and fifth seasons. His character was killed off in the middle of the fifth season.
In 2014, it was announced that he would play Fred Johnson in the science-fiction series The Expanse. Fred Johnson was a former Marine caught in a power struggle between Earth and Mars. Coleman also played Mingo in the 2016 miniseries Roots. Mingo was a strong, serious slave who helped run a plantation. He became a father figure to Chicken George.
Coleman also played Tobias Church on Arrow in 2016. From 2017 to 2022, he played Klyden on The Orville. In 2019, he appeared in the first two seasons of All American as Corey James. More recently, he played Bruno Mannheim in Superman & Lois from 2023 to 2024.

Chad Coleman was married to Sally Stewart from 1999 to 2010.
In 2015, he created a PSA (public service announcement). This was with a group called Living Advantage. The PSA encouraged fostering children as a good way to help kids.
