Chaloner Chute was the only son of a famous lawyer, also named Chaloner Chute. His father owned a large estate called Sutton Court in Chiswick. Chaloner Chute was born in December 1632.
Early Life and Education
When he was young, Chaloner Chute went to a special school for lawyers called Middle Temple in 1645. This was like a university for people who wanted to study law. He worked hard and became a qualified lawyer in 1656. This meant he could practice law and help people with legal issues.
A Career in Politics
In 1659, Chaloner Chute became a politician. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Devizes. This happened when his father was the "Speaker" of the House of Commons, which is like the leader of the Parliament.
After his father passed away in April 1659, Chaloner Chute inherited his family's properties, including a beautiful historic house called The Vyne.
He also held important local jobs. From 1659 to 1660, he was a Justice of the Peace for Hampshire. This meant he helped keep law and order in the local area. He also helped organize the local army, called the militia, for Hampshire and Middlesex in 1659.
In 1660, he helped collect taxes in Wiltshire. The next year, in 1661, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Haslemere. However, his election was later cancelled. He continued to help with tax collection in Hampshire until he died.
Family Life
Chaloner Chute got married in 1654 to Catharine Lennard. She was the daughter of a nobleman, Richard Lennard, 13th Baron Dacre. Together, they had three sons and one daughter. Chaloner Chute passed away when he was 34 years old.
