How Champ Began

Champ was started in 1959 by a man named Bill Bangert. He was a former track and field athlete and had even been the mayor of another town called Berkeley, Missouri. Bill Bangert was the mayor of Champ for 18 years before he moved to California.

What Champ is Like Today

Most of the land in Champ is actually a large area used for burying trash, known as a landfill. This landfill opened in 1974. The rest of the village is home to a few houses and a building called Grace Church.
