History of Champion Heights
The name "Champion Heights" comes from Champion Township, which is the larger area it's part of. The township itself was named after a person named General Henry Champion. He owned a lot of the land in this area way back in the late 1700s.
Before that, this land was part of something called the Connecticut Western Reserve. This was a piece of land in Ohio that the state of Connecticut claimed a long time ago. The land was later bought by a group called the Connecticut Land Company. They divided the land among different owners, and General Henry Champion ended up owning most of what became Champion Township.
There was a post office in the area that used the name "Champion" for some years, first from 1850 to 1858, and then again from 1873 until 1902.
