Chance Dylan Waters is an Australian hip hop artist and producer. He used to be known by his stage name, Phatchance. Chance Waters stopped making music in 2015.
In 2003, Chance Waters helped start the group Natural Causes. They released an album called The Incidental Noise Demo in 2007. The group also toured all over Australia before they broke up later that year.
In 2009, Chance Waters released his first solo album, Inkstains, under the name Phatchance. His second album, Infinity, came out in 2012. This time, he used his real name, Chance Waters. Some of his most popular songs are "Maybe Tomorrow" and "Young & Dumb". These songs were played a lot on the radio station Triple J. They even made it onto the Triple J Hottest 100 list in 2012.

About Chance Waters' Music Journey
Chance Waters has toured with many big Australian hip hop artists. These include Bliss N Eso, Drapht, The Herd, Pez, and 360. In 2009, he was a special artist on Triple J Unearthed. This program helps new Australian artists get noticed. After being featured, he got a lot of radio play and praise from Triple J. He was also featured on the front page of MySpace and in The Australian newspaper.
In 2011, he released an EP called Inkstains (Acoustic). This EP had acoustic versions of songs from his Inkstains album. It also included an acoustic version of "Infinity", which was the main song for his second album. The song "Build It Up (Acoustic)" from this EP featured the band Charlie Mayfair. It was also played on Triple J. To promote the EP, Chance Waters was on the front cover of the mX newspaper in Sydney. He also gave an interview and played live on the Triple J Hip Hop Show and FBi Radio.
He went on the Hey, Where's Your DJ? tour to support the EP. This was known as the first acoustic Australian hip hop tour. He even had sold-out shows for three weeks in Sydney. At the end of 2011, Waters released the Approaching Infinity mixtape. This was his last release using the name Phatchance. The mixtape included a remix of Gotye's famous song "Somebody That I Used to Know". This remix became popular on radio in Europe.
Changing His Name and New Music
In 2012, Chance Waters announced he was finishing his next album, Infinity. He also said he would stop using the name Phatchance and use his real name instead. In February 2012, he released the first song from Infinity, which was the title track. The song was played on Triple J, and its music video was shown on ABC's RAGE!. He went on the Approaching Infinity tour to support the song. This tour included a sold-out show with rapper Seth Sentry in Melbourne.
In May 2012, Waters released his second song from Infinity, called "Maybe Tomorrow". It featured Sydney singer Lilian Blue. This song was added to the Triple J playlist and played often. It was also used by National Geographic for their TV show. "Maybe Tomorrow" was one of the most added songs to Australian radio in May. It reached number 2 on the AIR national independent radio charts in June. The music video for the song was named RAGE! Indie of the Week. It later placed at number 7 in the 2012 RAGE! Top 50.
In August 2012, Chance Waters announced that his new album Infinity would be released through Permanent Records. He also said he was working on a new song with Bertie Blackman. Infinity was released on November 2nd. The song "Young and Dumb" was first played on Triple J on September 20th. He also performed it live on Like a Version, along with a cover of Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man". In November 2012, Waters was nominated for a J Award. His album Infinity became his first album to reach the top 100, debuting at number 54 on the ARIA Album Charts. "Young & Dumb" reached number 45 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2012 list, and "Maybe Tomorrow" was at number 89.
Chance Waters has performed at many music festivals. These include Sydney Big Day Out, Insert To Play, Rip It Up, The Big Pineapple Festival, and Nannup Music Festival.
His First Group: Natural Causes
From 2003 to 2007, Phatchance was a founding member of the Sydney hip hop group Natural Causes. They were the main act for an independent record label called Nurcha Records. Before the label and the band broke up, they played over 70 live shows across Australia.
Natural Causes released only one album, The Incidental Noise Demo, in 2007. The first song from the album, "Introductions", was named Single of the Week by FBi Radio. This is a big independent radio station in Sydney.
Chance Waters' Life
Chance Waters was born in Sydney. He lived in Christies Beach, South Australia and Melbourne for a short time when he was younger. When he was twelve, Waters moved back to Sydney. He lived in Balmain with his mother and brother. He went to North Rocks Public School for primary school. Then he attended Fort Street High School in Petersham. Many famous artists and bands went to this school, like Josh Pyke, Horrorshow, and Spit Syndicate.
After he stopped making music in 2015, Chance Waters started working with new startup companies. He also worked as a brand leader for Red Bull for several years.
