Chanté Torrane Moore (born February 17, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, and television star. She is famous for her powerful five-octave vocal range, which includes the very high whistle register. Moore became well-known in the 1990s with her first album, Precious (1992). Her songs "Love's Taken Over" and "It's Alright" were big R&B hits.
She gained even more fame with her top ten hit song "Chanté's Got a Man" in 1999. Later, she explored different music styles with her album Exposed (2000), which featured the international hit "Straight Up."
Besides her music, Moore has appeared on television. She was a star on the reality show R&B Divas: Los Angeles for three seasons. In 2014, she wrote a book about her life called Will I Marry Me?. Over her career, she has sold more than ten million albums worldwide and has won several awards, including a Soul Train Music Award.

Early Life and Beginnings
Chanté Torrane Moore was born in San Francisco, California, on February 17, 1967. Her parents were Christian ministers, and she grew up singing gospel music in church. Her family was very musical, and she was inspired by artists like George Duke and Lee Ritenour.
When she was 12, her family moved to San Diego. As a teenager, Moore participated in beauty pageants. At age 16, she played the lead role of Dorothy in a college production of the musical The Wiz. This experience helped her realize she wanted a career in music. She started writing songs and recording demos with the encouragement of her boyfriend at the time.
Music Career
1991–1995: First Albums and Breakthrough
At age 19, Moore signed with Warner Bros. Records, but her first album was never released. She didn't give up and later signed with Silas Records, a part of MCA Records, in 1991.
In 1992, she released her first album, Precious. It was a success and was certified Gold, meaning it sold over 500,000 copies. The singles "Love's Taken Over" and "It's Alright" became top 20 hits on the R&B charts.
Her second album, A Love Supreme, came out in 1994. The song "Old School Lovin'" from this album also became a top 20 R&B hit. In 1995, she was featured on the soundtrack for the popular movie Waiting to Exhale.
1996–2002: Mainstream Success
In 1999, Moore released her third album, This Moment Is Mine. The album's main song, "Chanté's Got a Man," was a huge success. It was written about her then-husband, Kadeem Hardison, and became her first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her fourth album, Exposed (2000), had a more modern pop sound. The song "Straight Up" from this album was a hit in countries like the United Kingdom. In 2001, she collaborated with The Isley Brothers and R. Kelly on the song "Contagious," which won a Soul Train Music Award.
2003–2007: Duet Albums
After marrying singer Kenny Lattimore, the couple recorded two albums together. Their first, Things That Lovers Do (2003), was an album of classic love song covers. It was a big success and became the highest-charting album for both artists.
In 2006, they released a double album called Uncovered/Covered. One part of the album had R&B love songs, and the other had gospel music. The album was nominated for a Stellar Award, which honors gospel music.
2008–2015: Solo Work and Reality TV
Moore returned to her solo career with the album Love the Woman in 2008. In 2013, she released another solo album, Moore Is More.
In 2013, she joined the cast of the TV One reality show R&B Divas: Los Angeles. The show followed the lives of several female R&B singers. Moore was on the show for all three seasons. During this time, she also released a book called Will I Marry Me? in 2014.
2016–Present: New Music and Singer 2024

In 2017, Moore started her own record label, CM7 Records. She released her seventh album, The Rise of the Phoenix. The single "Real One" became her most successful song in years, reaching the top 10 on the US Adult R&B Songs chart. She also released a Christmas album, Christmas Back to You, that same year.
In 2022, Moore performed a medley of her greatest hits at the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her first album.
From May to July 2024, Moore competed on the popular Chinese TV show Singer 2024. She was the first R&B singer to be on the show and finished in fifth place. Her appearance on the show, which has millions of viewers, made her very popular in China. In August 2024, her duet with Eric Benét, "So Distracted," reached number one on the US Adult R&B Songs chart.
Personal Life
Chanté Moore has been married three times. She was married to actor Kadeem Hardison from 1997 to 2000, and they have a daughter named Sophia.
In 2002, she married singer Kenny Lattimore. They have a son together, who was born in 2003. Moore and Lattimore announced their divorce in 2011.
On October 22, 2022, Moore married Stephen G. Hill, a former executive at the TV network BET.
