Kenny Lattimore's Early Life
Kenny Lattimore was born in Washington, D.C., USA. He loved music from a young age. He sang in school and church choirs. He also joined the band program at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. Kenny often thanks Dr. Barbara Baker for helping him start his music journey. He also went to Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Kenny Lattimore's Music Career
Starting with Maniquin (1988–1991)
Kenny Lattimore first worked as a singer for the R&B group Maniquin. Later, he became the main singer for the group. In 1989, Maniquin released their only album. It was also called Maniquin. The group's first song was "I Wanna Ride." Kenny left the group to start his solo career. After he left, Maniquin broke up.
First Solo Albums (1994–1999)
In 1994, Kenny Lattimore signed with Columbia Records. He released his first solo album, Kenny Lattimore, in 1996. This album had two popular songs: "Never Too Busy" and "For You". "For You" was even nominated for a Grammy Award. The album helped Kenny win Best New Artist at the NAACP Image Awards in 1996. It also sold enough copies to become a Gold album.
He then released his second album, From the Soul of Man, in 1998. This album also featured classic soul music. It included popular songs like "Days Like This" and "If I Lose My Woman." He also sang a cover of The Beatles' song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
New Record Deals and Duets (2000–2006)
After a short break, Kenny Lattimore joined Arista Records. He released a more modern R&B album called Weekend in 2001. The main song, "Weekend," used a sample from Blondie's "Rapture". It became a favorite on the radio.
Kenny Lattimore is known for his exciting stage shows. He has a great singing voice and creates a romantic mood. The New York Times called him a "modern soul man" on stage. Kenny has often said he wants to show the "strong, but sensitive and caring side of Black men."
In 2003, Kenny and his wife at the time, Chanté Moore, released a duet album. It was called Things That Lovers Do. This album had classic soul songs from the 1970s and 1980s. It also included two new songs. Popular songs from this album were "Loveable (From Your Head to Your Toes)" and a cover of "You Don't Have To Cry." Kenny and Chanté toured together to promote the album.
They released another album together in 2006, called Uncovered/Covered. This album reached number ten on the Billboard R&B Charts. It also reached number two on the Billboard Gospel Charts. Their cover of "You're All I Need to Get By" was used as the theme song for the BET show The Family Crews.
Recent Music and Projects (2008–Present)
In 2008, Kenny Lattimore released a cover album called Timeless. The main song, "You Are My Starship," was originally sung by Norman Connor. Kenny also sang on the dance song "Another Love" by Brian Culbertson.
In 2012, Kenny Lattimore started his own record company, SincereSoul Records. He released his album Back 2 Cool in 2013. The first song from the album was "Find a Way." The second song, "Back 2 Cool," featured singer Kelly Price.
Kenny Lattimore's Family Life
In January 2002, Kenny Lattimore married singer Chanté Moore. Their son, Kenny Lattimore Jr., was born in April 2003. They divorced in July 2011.
On March 8, 2020, Kenny Lattimore married American judge Faith Jenkins. In late 2022, they shared that they were expecting a baby. Their daughter was born in January 2023.
