Kelly Cherelle Price (born April 4, 1973) is an American R&B and gospel singer. She started her career in 1992 as a backing vocalist for the famous singer Mariah Carey. You can hear her voice on some of Carey's biggest hits, like "All I Want for Christmas Is You".
Price became more well-known in 1997. She sang on the hit songs "Mo Money Mo Problems" by The Notorious B.I.G. and "Feel So Good" by Mase. This success led her to release her own music. Her first album, Soul of a Woman (1998), was a big hit and sold over a million copies. Its main single, "Friend of Mine", was very popular.
She also worked with Whitney Houston and Faith Evans on the song "Heartbreak Hotel". The song was a huge success and earned a Grammy Award nomination. Over her career, Price has won a Soul Train Music Award and has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards.

Music Career
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Kelly Price was born in Far Rockaway, Queens, a part of New York City. She grew up singing in her church choir. Her first big job as a professional singer was in 1992. She performed with singer George Michael at Madison Square Garden.
A month later, while she was practicing for the Grammy Awards, superstar Mariah Carey heard her singing. Carey was so impressed that she hired Price to be one of her background singers. Price toured and recorded with Carey for five years, until 1997.
Becoming a Solo Star
After singing with Mariah Carey and on hit songs for other artists, Price released her first album, Soul of a Woman, in 1998. It was a huge success.
Her second album, Mirror Mirror, came out in 2000. It included the popular song "As We Lay," which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
In 2005, Price recorded her first live gospel album, called This Is Who I Am. It was released in 2006 and went to number one on the Billboard Gospel Charts.
Collaborations and Later Work
Price has worked with many other artists. In 2009, she was featured on the gospel song "Oh Mary" by singer Coko. She also formed a group called The Queen Project with singers Deborah Cox and Tamia. The group's goal was to inspire women through music and community service.
In 2012, just two days before singer Whitney Houston passed away, Price sang the song "Jesus Loves Me" with her at a party. It was Houston's last public performance.
In 2016, Price's voice was featured on the songs "Ultralight Beam" and "Low Lights" from Kanye West's album The Life of Pablo. She also co-wrote the song "Not a Little Bit" for R&B singer K. Michelle.
Personal Life
Price grew up in Queens, New York. Her family was very musical. Her mother, Claudia, was the musical director at their church. Her grandfather, Jerome Norman, was the pastor. Price's sister, Shanrae, is also a singer and worked as a background vocalist for Mariah Carey.
In 2020, Price's mother and grandfather sadly passed away. In September 2021, many people were worried when Price was reported missing. Her lawyer later explained that she was safe and was recovering from a serious case of COVID-19.
Fighting Breast Cancer
Kelly Price is also known for her work to fight breast cancer. This cause is very important to her. In 1998, she learned that both her mother and mother-in-law had been diagnosed with the disease.
In 2000, Price donated $250,000 to help fund cancer research. The money came from the sales of her song "Love Sets You Free." She has also used her fame to raise awareness about breast cancer, especially for minority women.
Her mother, Claudia, became a breast cancer survivor and an activist. She worked to educate people about the disease and encouraged them to get check-ups.
