Chaparral Hill was once a small settlement and a place where people dug for gold in Amador County, California. It was located right next to the Mokelumne River, a bit upstream from another town called Lancha Plana.
The Story of Chaparral Hill
Chaparral Hill started in the 1850s. This was during the exciting time of the California Gold Rush. People came here hoping to find gold.
Because it was by the river, Chaparral Hill was an important spot for crossing. There were several ways to get across the Mokelumne River here. These included bridges like Judge Palmer's Bridge and Delaney's Bridge. There was also Westmoreland's Ferry and Westmoreland Bridge.
