Charata is an important city located in the Chaco province of Argentina. It is home to about 26,500 people, based on a 2010 count. Charata is the main town of the Chacabuco Department. It is also the most important city in the southwest part of Chaco. The city is about 280 kilometers (174 miles) away from Resistencia, which is the capital city of the province.

A Look at Charata's Past

Charata was officially started by a special order from the province on October 4, 1914. This date marks when the city began to grow and develop into the place it is today.

Charata is also known for being close to a very interesting place called the Campo del Cielo crater. This area is famous because it's where many meteorites landed a very long time ago. These meteorites came from a huge space rock that hit the Earth. Scientists believe this big impact happened around 3,800 BCE. It's a cool reminder of how space can affect our planet!
