Chardon, California facts for kids
Chardon was once a small community, or "settlement," in Butte County, California, in the United States. It's no longer there today, but it played a small part in the history of the area.
Where Was Chardon Located?
Chardon was found along a railroad line. This line connected two other places: Oroville Junction and East Biggs. Oroville Junction used to be called Tres Vias. East Biggs was once known as Rio Bonito. Chardon was about 8 miles (13 km) west of the city of Oroville.
How Did Chardon Get Its Name?
The name "Chardon" comes from an early settler. His name was Charles Langdon. The name was created by taking the "Char" from Charles and the "don" from Langdon.
The Chardon Post Office
A post office is a place where you can send and receive mail. Chardon had its own post office from 1894 to 1907. In 1897, the entire townsite, including the post office, was moved. It was relocated about 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest from its first spot.
