Chari-Baguirmi (Arabic: شاري باقرمي) is one of the 23 regions in the country of Chad. It's located in Central Africa. The main city and capital of this region is Massenya. This area used to be part of an older region called Chari-Baguirmi Prefecture. It also includes parts of the N'Djamena area.

A Look Back in Time
The Sultanate of Bagirmi
Chari-Baguirmi was once the center of a powerful kingdom called the Sultanate of Bagirmi. This sultanate ruled a large part of the area for many years. Its capital was also Massenya. The sultanate existed from the late 1400s to the late 1800s.

This region shares borders with several other regions in Chad. To the north is Hadjer-Lamis Region. To the east, you'll find Guéra Region. The Moyen-Chari Region is to the southeast. To the south is Tandjilé Region. Finally, to the west are Mayo-Kebbi Est Region, N'Djamena, and the country of Cameroon.
The Chari River
A very important river, the Chari River, flows through the western and southern parts of the region. Rivers are often vital for life and travel in many areas.

Massenya is the capital city of the Chari-Baguirmi region. Other important towns and settlements include Bä Illi, Bogomoro, Bousso, Dourbali, Koundoul, La Loumia, Linia, Maï Aïche, Mandélia and Mogo.
People and Population
How Many People Live Here?
According to a census from 2009, the Chari-Baguirmi region had a population of 621,785 people. Slightly more than half of the population, about 50.30%, were females.
Families and Homes
In 2009, the average household in the region had about 5.40 people. This number was similar for both rural and urban areas. There were 115,118 households in total. Most of these, 102,322, were in rural areas.
Nomadic Communities
About 31,205 people in the region were nomads. This means they move from place to place rather than living in one fixed home. They made up about 8% of the total population.
Main Language Groups
Many different groups of people live in Chari-Baguirmi. They speak various languages. Some of the main groups include Chadian Arabs (who usually speak Chadian Arabic), Bagirmi, Fula, Gadang, Kanuri, Kwang, Lagwan, Majera, Mbara, Mser, Ndam and Sarua.

The Chari-Baguirmi region is divided into three smaller areas called departments. Each department has its own capital city:
- Baguirmi (with its capital at Massenya)
- Chari (with its capital at Mandélia)
- Loug Chari (with its capital at Bousso)
Regional Administration
Chad has changed how its regions are managed over time. In 2003, the country was divided into regions, departments, and local communities. This was done to help manage the country better. Governors, who are chosen by the President, lead these regions. As of 2016, Chad has 23 regions in total. These divisions help organize the population and make administration easier.
