Charity Basaza Mulenga is a talented Ugandan electrical engineer and a leader in education. She was the first ever vice chancellor (a top leader) of St. Augustine International University (SAIU) from 2011 to 2016. SAIU is a private university in Uganda that was officially approved in 2011.

Early Life and Education
Charity Basaza Mulenga was born around 1979 in Kisoro District. This area is located in the Western part of Uganda.
University Studies
Mulenga studied electrical engineering at Makerere University. This is the biggest and oldest public university in Uganda. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Science, in 2001.
She then went on to study in the United Kingdom. In 2004, she received her Master of Science degree. This degree was in digital communication systems from the University of Loughborough. She continued her studies there. In 2010, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Her PhD was also in electrical and electronic engineering.
Work Experience
Charity Basaza Mulenga started her career in 2001. She joined MTN Uganda as a switch planning engineer. This job involved planning how phone calls and data move through the network.
Further Studies and Research
In 2003, she left MTN Uganda to get her Master's degree. She received a scholarship from the British Council to study in the UK. After finishing her Master's, she returned to Uganda in 2005. She joined the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at Makerere University. There, she worked as a research coordinator.
While at Makerere, she received another scholarship. This allowed her to pursue her PhD. Her research focused on antennas and electromagnetic modelling. This means she studied how radio waves travel and how antennas work. During this time, she also became an assistant lecturer at Makerere University.
Leadership Roles
In 2009, Mulenga was appointed deputy vice chancellor at SAIU. This was a very important leadership role. From 2011 to 2016, she served as the vice chancellor of SAIU. This means she was the main leader of the university. She is still a member of the University Council at SAIU. This council helps guide the university's decisions.
