The Charland River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Saint Lawrence River, which is a very big river! The Charland River is located in the town of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, which is part of the Capitale-Nationale region.
The land around the Charland River is used for farming and homes. Important roads like Quebec Route 138 and Chemin du Roy help people travel through the area.
The river usually freezes over in winter, from December to March. It's safe to walk on the ice during this time. The amount of water in the river changes with the seasons and how much it rains. In spring, usually in March or April, the river's water level rises a lot.
Where is the Charland River?
The Charland River starts on the south side of Quebec Route 138. This is near the western edge of the town of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.
The river's source is about 1.5 kilometers (about 1 mile) southeast of the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. It's also about 1.2 kilometers (less than a mile) west of the center of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.
From its start, the Charland River flows for about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles). It drops about 51 meters (167 feet) in height along its path.
The Charland River flows into the northwest side of the Saint Lawrence River. This meeting point is about 12.9 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of the Pierre Laporte Bridge. It's also about 4.1 kilometers (2.5 miles) southwest of the center of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.
