Charlene Vanessa Edwards Honeywell was born on November 19, 1957. She is a very important judge in the United States. She serves as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. This means she works for the U.S. government and helps decide cases that follow federal laws.

Early Life and Education
Charlene Honeywell was born in Deerfield Beach, Florida. She finished high school at Pompano Beach High School in 1975. After high school, she went to Howard University. In 1979, she earned a degree in political science. She then studied law at the Fredric G. Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. She earned her law degree in December 1981.
Her Career as a Lawyer
After finishing law school, Charlene Honeywell started her career helping people. From 1982 to 1985, she worked in the Public Defender's office in Tallahassee, Florida. A public defender is a lawyer who helps people who cannot afford to hire their own lawyer. She then worked in the Public Defender's office in Tampa, Florida for two years.
Later, from 1987 to 1994, she was a lawyer for the City of Tampa. She then joined a private law firm in Tampa. She worked there for six years, first as a senior associate and then as a partner. A partner is a senior lawyer who helps run the law firm.
Becoming a Judge
Serving as a State Judge
In 1994, the Governor of Florida, Lawton Chiles, chose Charlene Honeywell to be a judge. She became a judge in Hillsborough County Circuit Court in Florida. She served for a short time that year.
In 1999, she wanted to become a judge again. She was inspired by Peggy Quince, who became the first African American woman on the Florida Supreme Court. In 2000, Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed her to be a judge in Hillsborough County again. She served as a state judge there until 2009.
Serving as a Federal Judge
On June 25, 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Charlene Honeywell to become a federal judge. She was chosen to fill a judge's seat in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The United States Senate voted to approve her nomination on November 9, 2009. All 88 senators voted yes!
She officially became a federal judge on November 12, 2009. On December 4, 2023, she took on a new role as a senior judge. This means she can still hear cases but with a reduced workload.
