Charles II (also known as Charles John Amadeus) was a young Duke of Savoy. He was born in Turin, Piedmont, on June 23, 1489. He became Duke in 1490 when he was just one year old. Because he was so young, his mother, Blanche of Montferrat, ruled for him as a regent. Charles II also inherited special rights to the Kingdoms of Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Armenia from his father, Charles I.

During Charles II's time as Duke, a big event happened in Italy. Charles VIII of France, the King of France, invaded Italy. He wanted to conquer the Kingdom of Naples.

The House of Savoy, which was Charles II's family, was led by his mother, Blanche. She decided to let the French army pass through their lands. This allowed King Charles VIII to continue his journey to Naples.

Charles II was born in Turin. Sadly, he died very young in Moncalieri when he was about seven years old. He passed away after falling by his bed.

Who Ruled Next?

After Charles II's death, his granduncle, Philip II, became the new Duke of Savoy. Philip II ruled from 1496 to 1497. He was the closest male relative in the Savoy family line.

Charles II had a younger sister named Violante Ludovica. She was married to Philip II's oldest son, Philibert the Handsome. Violante Ludovica also died young in 1499, when she was only 12 years old. She did not have any children.
