The Life of Charley Lincoln
Charley Lincoln was born in Lithonia, Georgia, in 1900. When he was a teenager, he learned to play the guitar. Savannah Weaver, who was the mother of another musician named Curley Weaver, taught him. Charley played music around Lithonia until about 1920.
Moving to Atlanta
After 1920, Charley moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He worked in other jobs, but he still played music sometimes. He often performed with his brother, Robert.
Recording Music
From 1927 to 1930, Charley and his brother recorded songs for Columbia Records. One example is a song called "It Won't Be Long Now." The brothers recorded this song in Atlanta on November 5, 1927. It was a duet with talking parts.
Later Years
Charley's brother, Robert, passed away in 1931. After that, Charley continued to perform music as Charley Lincoln. He kept playing into the 1950s. He passed away on September 28, 1963, from a brain hemorrhage.
