Lithonia is a city in eastern DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the larger Atlanta metropolitan area. In 2020, about 2,662 people lived there.
The name "Lithonia" means "city of stone." This name comes from the Greek word lithos, which means "stone." This makes sense because Lithonia is in an area known for its granite quarries. A quarry is a place where stone is dug out of the ground. Nearby, Stone Mountain is a huge rock made of granite. The area has a long history of mining rocks.
Lithonia is also a starting point for exploring the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. This special area is mostly located in Stonecrest, Georgia.
