Stonecrest is a city located in DeKalb County, Georgia, in the United States. It is mostly found in the far southeastern part of the county. A smaller piece of the city is just north of Interstate 20.
Stonecrest shares borders with the city of Lithonia. It also borders Rockdale and Henry counties. In 2020, about 59,194 people lived here. This makes Stonecrest the 15th-largest city in Georgia. It is also the biggest city completely inside DeKalb County. The state capital, Atlanta, is mostly in Fulton County.

History of Stonecrest
The people living in this area voted in November 2016 to create the city of Stonecrest. In March 2017, elections were held to choose leaders. These leaders included a mayor and representatives for five city council areas.
Jason Lary, who had worked in insurance and promoted concerts, became the city's first mayor. The city is named after The Mall at Stonecrest, a large shopping center. Other important places here include the Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve, Flat Rock Archives, and Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
At one point, Stonecrest considered a plan to give up 345 acres of its land. This was so the Georgia Legislature could create a new city called Amazon, Georgia. This idea came about because Stonecrest hoped to host Amazon's new main office, called Amazon HQ2. This project would have brought a lot of money and created 50,000 jobs. That number was almost equal to Stonecrest's population at the time.

In 2020, the city of Stonecrest had 59,194 people living there. There were 20,325 households and 11,759 families. Most people in Stonecrest are Black or African American. About 91% of the population identifies this way. White people make up about 2.35% of the population. People of mixed races make up about 2.5%. The Mall at Stonecrest
The Mall at Stonecrest first opened its doors in 2001. It is a big shopping center with more than 100 stores and places to eat. It is a popular spot for shopping and hanging out.
Flat Rock Archives
The Flat Rock Archives is a special museum. Its main goal is to save and share the history of African Americans in rural Georgia. It helps people learn about the past.
Arabia Mountain
Arabia Mountain is a part of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. It is one of two main peaks in the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. It's a great place for outdoor activities and exploring nature.
