Charlie Pickering, born on August 29, 1977, is a well-known Australian comedian and TV personality. He also works as a radio host, author, and producer.

He is currently the host of The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, a popular TV show on the ABC. This show looks at the news in a funny, satirical way. He also hosts The Yearly with Charlie Pickering, which is a special end-of-year version of the show. Charlie Pickering has also been a co-host on Tomorrow Tonight with Annabel Crabb and Adam Liaw.

Many people know him from his time as a co-host on The Project, a current affairs program. He also hosted the Friday Breakfast show on ABC Radio Melbourne. Plus, he was a team captain on the game show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation, representing "Generation X".

Charlie Pickering's Career Journey

Starting Out in Comedy

Before becoming a full-time comedian, Charlie Pickering worked as a lawyer. He decided to change careers and started performing comedy.

In 2002, he appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) with Michael Chamberlin in a show called Boiling Point. They even won an award for it! Before that, he was part of a comedy group called Enter the Datsun at the same festival in 1998, 1999, and 2002.

Charlie and Michael Chamberlin worked together again in 2003 for Boiling Point 2. That same year, they also performed with comedian Terri Psiakis in a show called Equal Third. In 2004, Charlie was in a show called Revolver.

In 2005, he launched his show Betterman at the MICF. He then took this show to New Zealand, where he won the Best International Act award. He also performed it at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. In 2006, his show Auto was nominated for a major comedy award.

In April 2013, Charlie co-hosted a series of shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with Waleed Aly. These shows were called The World's Problems Solved.

Television Appearances

Charlie Pickering has had a busy career in television. In 2008, he co-hosted a show called The Mansion with Michael Chamberlin on The Comedy Channel. He also hosted the third season of Cash Cab, a game show that takes place in a taxi.

From 2009 to 2012, he was a team captain on Network Ten's quiz show Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation. He represented the "Generation X" team.

In July 2009, he became a co-host on The Project (originally The 7PM Project) on Network Ten. He worked alongside Carrie Bickmore and Dave Hughes. On March 12, 2014, Charlie announced he was leaving The Project to try new things.

In April 2015, he started hosting The Weekly with Charlie Pickering on the ABC. This show is a weekly comedy and news satire program. In 2018, Charlie also hosted Tomorrow Tonight on the ABC with Annabel Crabb.

He has appeared on many other TV shows, including Rove Live, The Glass House, and Today. More recently, he has been on shows like Hughesy, We Have a Problem, Show Me the Movie!, Celebrity Name Game, and Would I Lie to You? Australia. In 2025, he was a contestant on Claire Hooper's House Of Games.

Radio Work

Charlie Pickering has also worked in Australian radio. He was on the youth radio station Triple J from 2001 to 2003. He also appeared on Fighting Talk on BBC Radio 5 Live in 2006 and 2007.

In December 2022, the ABC announced that Charlie would host ABC Radio Melbourne's Breakfast program on Fridays, starting in January 2023. He continued in this role until December 2023.

He currently hosts the program Thank God It's Friday on ABC Radio Melbourne, ABC Radio Sydney, and ABC Radio National stations. He took over this role after Richard Glover retired at the end of 2024.

Writing Books

Charlie Pickering is also an author. He published his first book, Impractical Jokes, in 2010.
