Charlie Rivel came from a family of circus performers. His parents, Pere Andreu Pausas and Marie-Louise Lasarre, were also circus artists. This meant Charlie grew up surrounded by the magic of the circus. He started performing at a very young age, when he was just three years old!
Becoming Charlie Rivel
Charlie Rivel didn't perform alone at first. He formed a group called "Los Rivels" with his brothers, Polo and René Rivel. He chose his stage name, Charlie, because he admired the famous silent film star, Charlie Chaplin. They even met in 1910! It's said that Chaplin once asked him, "Is it you who imitates me or I who imitates you?" This shows how much respect they had for each other's talent.
