Charlotte Dean is a talented writer, illustrator, and visual artist. She is well-known for creating and helping to direct a show called Charlotte's Shorts. She worked on this show with her mother, Tracy Newman, who is also a famous writer and director.
Early Life and Creative Beginnings
Charlotte grew up in a very creative family. Her mother was a performer and teacher at a famous comedy school called The Groundlings. This school teaches improv (making things up on the spot) and sketch comedy (short funny scenes). Charlotte spent a lot of time there, watching her mother perform and teach. This helped her love for the arts grow from a young age.
Charlotte's Creative Journey
Charlotte started writing when she was a child, inspired by her father. After high school, she traveled to Mexico City. There, she worked as a muralist, which means she painted large pictures on walls. She also kept writing during this time.
Her visual artwork has been shown in many cities. These include Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Mexico City. Some of her art is even part of a special collection at the Ryan James Fine Arts gallery in Kirkland, Washington.
In 2008, Charlotte started her blog called Charlotte's Shorts. She began this blog while she was in France with her husband. Later, in 2014, she turned her short stories into a 90-minute stage show. This show was also called Charlotte's Shorts. Charlotte and her mother, Tracy Newman, directed the show together.
The show was performed in Los Angeles in October 2014 at The Groundlings. Her aunt, Laraine Newman, also took part in the show. Charlotte's Shorts was also performed at the SF Sketchfest in January 2015.
Family and Production Work
Charlotte Dean lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband. She also runs a production company with her mother, Tracy Newman. Their company is called Run Along Home Productions. Charlotte became a mother in August 2017 when her son, Logan, was born.
