Growing Up Creative
Charlotte Dean grew up in a very creative family. She spent a lot of time at The Groundlings, a famous school and group for improv and sketch comedy. Her mother performed and taught there. The Groundlings was started by Gary Austin in 1974.
Charlotte's Artistic Journey
Starting to Write
Charlotte Dean began writing when she was a child. Her father inspired her to tell stories. After finishing high school, she traveled to Mexico City. There, she worked as a muralist, which means she painted large pictures on walls. She also kept writing during this time.
Art Shows and Her Blog
Charlotte's artwork has been shown in many cities. These include Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Mexico City. Some of her art is even part of a special collection at the Ryan James Fine Arts gallery in Kirkland, Washington. In 2008, she started her blog called Charlotte's Shorts. She began this blog while she was in France with her husband, Ro Reyes.
Charlotte's Shorts on Stage
In 2014, Charlotte turned her short stories from her blog into a 90-minute stage show. She directed the show along with her mother, Tracy Newman. The show was performed in Los Angeles on October 28, 2014, at The Groundlings. Her aunt, Laraine Newman, also took part in the show. Charlotte's Shorts was also performed at the SF Sketchfest on January 31, 2015.
Life Today
Charlotte Dean lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband. She also runs a production company with her mother called Run Along Home Productions. This company helps create new shows and projects. Charlotte's son, Logan, was born in August 2017.
