Chase is a very small, unincorporated community in Grant Township, Benton County, Indiana. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a name but no official local government like a town or city.
Today, Chase is almost like a ghost town, but you can still find it on maps. It has one main business: large grain elevators run by Boswell Chase Grain, Inc. These are tall buildings used to store grain like corn or wheat. Not far from Chase, you can also find the Daughtery Motor Speedway, a place for racing!
A Look Back in Time
Chase got its start around 1873. That year, a post office was opened there, which was a big deal for a small community! People could send and receive mail right in Chase. However, the post office closed down in 1918. The community itself was named after a person named Simon P. Chase.
Where is Chase Located?
Chase is found in Grant Township. It sits on a slightly raised area of land. A creek called Mud Pine Creek flows around it on the north, south, and west sides. Both Indiana State Road 352 and the Kankakee, Beaverville and Southern Railroad pass through the community, heading west.
