Chenal Valley facts for kids
Chenal Valley is a large and growing part of Little Rock, Arkansas. It's located in the western-central area of the city. Chenal Valley is a very important place for both homes and businesses in west Little Rock.
The name "Chenal" comes from a nearby place called Shinall Mountain. However, a company that helped build the area, Deltic Timber Corporation (now called PotlatchDeltic), decided to change the name a little. They made it sound more like a French word. This was a plan to make the area seem more upscale and attractive to people looking for nicer homes and shops.

Chenal Parkway: The Main Road
The most important road in Chenal Valley is Chenal Parkway. It's a big road with four lanes, often separated in the middle. This parkway connects Highway 10 to the Financial Centre, which is a business area in west Little Rock.
Chenal Parkway starts in the northwest, just north of Arkansas 10, near Highway 300. It's also close to the Pinnacle Valley neighborhood. The road ends in the southeast at Autumn Road. From there, it turns into Financial Centre Parkway and eventually connects to Interstate 630 at Shackleford Road.
How Chenal Valley Grew
Chenal Valley started to grow very quickly in 1990. This was when the Chenal Country Club was built. Many of the first homes in the area were also constructed around this time.
You can find these early houses, along with some apartment buildings and condos, spread out among the wooded areas of Chenal Valley. The area has continued to develop with many more homes and businesses since then.
Shopping and Businesses
Chenal Valley has two main areas for shopping and businesses:
- Eastern Commercial Area: Near the Financial Centre, you'll find many popular chain stores and larger shops.
- Western Commercial Area: This part is home to The Promenade at Chenal. This is a large shopping center that includes an IMAX movie theater. You can also find many major clothing stores and other shops there.
Interesting Fact
One part of Chenal Valley, called Census Tract 42.13, has a very high average household income. In fact, it's the highest in all of Arkansas! This shows that many people living in Chenal Valley have good jobs and earn a lot of money.
