How Cherryville Began

Cherryville was founded around 1804. This makes it one of the oldest settlements in Lehigh Township. People believe the name "Cherryville" came from a road called Cherry Row Lane. This road was lined with 100 cherry trees!

A post office opened in Cherryville in 1816. This helped the community grow and connect with other places.

Life in the 1870s

By the 1870s, Cherryville was a busy little village. It had about 25 houses. There were also two shops where people made carriages. Two blacksmith shops were present, along with a wheel shop. A tailor and four stores also served the community.

Notable People

  • Samuel Henry Kress: He was the founder of S. H. Kress & Co., a chain of "five and dime" stores. He was also a famous art collector.
