Chester is a small city in Howard County, Iowa, United States. In 2020, about 139 people lived there. This was a small decrease from the 151 people counted in 2000. Chester is located very close to the border of the state of Minnesota.

History of Chester
Chester was first planned out and settled in the year 1858. It officially became a city on September 22, 1900.

Education in Chester
Public schools in Chester are part of the Howard–Winneshiek Community School District. This school district was formed in 1960 when several smaller school districts joined together.
In 2015, the school board decided to close the Lime Springs–Chester Elementary School. Students from Chester now attend other schools within the district.
