This village is part of a larger area often called Chevy Chase. This bigger community includes several nearby towns in Montgomery County and even a neighborhood in Washington, D.C.

History of Chevy Chase Section Five
In 1922, the Maryland state legislature created this area as a special taxing district. This meant it was a specific area where people paid special taxes to help fund local services. At that time, state law also made rules about behavior. It said that "bad behavior and language" were not allowed within the village's borders.
Years later, on May 18, 1982, the people living in Section Five voted on whether to become an official village. Most people voted yes, and so it became an incorporated village. This means it gained its own local government.

According to the census from 2010, there were 658 people living in the village. These people lived in 222 households, and 191 of those were families. The village had about 6,580 people per square mile (2,540 people per square kilometer). There were 226 houses or apartments in total.
Most of the people living in the village were White (95.6%). About 3.3% were Hispanic or Latino, and 2.1% were Asian. A small number of people were African American or from other backgrounds.
The average age of people in the village was 44 years old. About 31.2% of the residents were under 18 years old. About 12.9% were 65 years old or older. Slightly more than half of the residents (53.3%) were female, and 46.7% were male.
