Chiara Ferragni (born May 7, 1987) is a famous Italian blogger and influencer. She became well-known for her fashion blog, "The Blonde Salad."
Recently, Ferragni has been involved in a big issue called the Pandorogate scandal. This happened because she was accused of misleading people about money raised for charity. In 2023, she had to pay a large fine for this. She is also facing a trial related to these events. This scandal even led to a new law in Italy, called the Ferragni Law, to help prevent similar problems with influencers in the future.

Chiara Ferragni's Career Journey
Chiara Ferragni was born in 1987 in Cremona, a city in northern Italy. She is the oldest of three sisters. Her father was a dentist, and her mother, Marina Di Guardo, is a writer. Her mother also worked in the fashion industry.
When she was 16, Chiara started modeling for an agency in Milan. After a few years, she decided to stop modeling. She wanted to achieve other goals in her life. In October 2009, she started her fashion blog called "The Blonde Salad" with her former boyfriend, Riccardo Pozzoli.
By December 2011, Teen Vogue magazine featured her as a top blogger. At that time, she was studying law at Bocconi University. However, she did not finish her university degree.
Growing Her Business
Chiara's business grew quickly. In 2014, her ventures earned about $8 million. Most of this money came from her own shoe line, the Chiara Ferragni Collection. That same year, she appeared on the TV show Project Runway as a guest judge.
In April 2015, Chiara made history by being the first fashion blogger to appear on the cover of Vogue España. By July 2017, she had 10 million followers on Instagram. Because of her large following, she could earn about $12,000 for a single sponsored post on Instagram. She also used her social media to speak out on important topics in Italy.
In 2017, Chiara was chosen to design costumes for a special ice show. On July 26, 2017, she opened her first Chiara Ferragni Collection store in Milan. In June 2020, she was featured in the song "Non mi basta più" by Italian rapper Baby K. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, she and her then-husband Fedez raised €3 million in just 24 hours. This money helped the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
In April 2021, Chiara joined the Board of Directors for Tod's Group, a well-known fashion company. However, she left this position in March 2024. In May 2021, she launched a special collection with Nespresso.
The Pandorogate Issue
During the 2021-2022 holiday season, Chiara Ferragni worked with Balocco, a food company. They sold a special Balocco pandoro (a type of sweet bread) with her brand on it. The idea was that money from sales would go to charity. However, it was found that the promised donations were not made from the sales.
This led to the Pandorogate scandal. In 2023, the Italian Competition Authority fined her $1 million for misleading people. As of January 2025, she is facing a trial for serious misleading practices related to this issue.
This scandal also led to the creation of the Ferragni Law in Italy. This law helps prevent influencers from making false claims or misleading advertisements in the future.
Understanding the Pandorogate Scandal
In December 2023, the Italian Competition Authority announced that Chiara Ferragni and her companies had to pay a fine of 1.075 million euros. This was after an investigation into unfair and misleading business practices. The investigation looked into a partnership between Ferragni and the Italian food company Balocco in 2022. They sold a special Ferragni-branded Balocco pandoro cake.
The authorities found that customers were led to believe that by buying the cake, they were helping to donate money for bone cancer research at a hospital in Turin. The Ferragni-branded cake cost more than a regular Balocco pandoro, which also made people think part of the extra cost was for charity.
However, no part of the money from the sales was given to charity. Balocco had made a one-time donation of 50,000 euros to the hospital months before the special pandoro was launched. Chiara Ferragni herself was paid over 1 million euros for the branding and promotions. The authorities said customers were misled into thinking she was also donating to the charity, but she did not.
This situation caused significant damage to Chiara Ferragni's public image. Many brands ended their partnerships with her.
