History
Bocconi University was started in 1902 by Ferdinando Bocconi. He named it after his son, Luigi, who sadly passed away in a battle. The university first worked with the Polytechnic University of Milan. It used a teaching style similar to a famous school in Antwerp, Belgium.
Campus
The university campus is in Milan, near a park called Parco Ravizza. It has several buildings close to each other.
- The Sarfatti Building is the oldest on campus. It was built in 1936. This building has classrooms, a large hall for events, a restaurant, and many offices. At its entrance, there are two lion statues. These lions are part of some fun university myths!
- The pensionato building was opened in 1956. It has large halls, a canteen (a place to eat), and dorm rooms for students. It can house about 350 students.
- The SDA Bocconi building opened in 1985. It was later made bigger in 2001 to include the university bookstore. There's also a football field between this building and the pensionato.
- The modern Velodromo building opened in 2001. It's called that because it looks like an oval-shaped velodrome (a track for cycling). Each of its four floors has about ten classrooms. This building uses a special system to save energy for its air conditioning. A marble statue of Ferdinando Bocconi is in the main lobby.
- Near Piazza Sraffa, you'll find the Library building, a small chapel called "San Ferdinando," and other smaller buildings. These house offices for language studies and other student activities.
- In 2007, a new building called the Grafton Building was opened. It's known for its unique design and won an award in 2008 for being the "World building of the year." This building holds many faculty offices and research centers. It also has a new large hall, seminar rooms, and parking underground. The architects who designed it won a major award in 2020.
Many other university offices are located around Parco Ravizza.

Bocconi University offers about 1800 places for students to live in dorms. These include Bocconi Residence, Javotte Residence, Dubini Residence, Spadolini Residence, Arcobaleno Residence, Isonzo Residence, Bligny Residence, and the newer Castiglioni Residence (opened in 2018).

Students at Bocconi University create their own magazines and journals:

- Be OBjective Magazine: A digital magazine started by students, focusing on art, culture, media, and entertainment.
Superstitions
There are some fun traditions and beliefs among students at Bocconi:
- In the oldest building, there are three sets of doors. The middle doors have two lion statues. A popular saying is, "Chi passa tra i Leoni non si laurea alla Bocconi," which means "Whoever passes between the Lions won't graduate from Bocconi." So, students try to avoid walking through those specific doors!
- If you look at the three main buildings from above, they seem to spell out "30L." This stands for "30 cum laude", which is the highest possible grade you can get on an exam. The building in Via Roentgen looks like a "3," the Velodromo like a "0," and the main building like two "L"s.
