Chicago City Hall

Chicago City Hall is the main building for the city government of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It's right next to the Richard J. Daley Center and the James R. Thompson Center. This important building is where the mayor of Chicago works and where many city offices are located. The east side of the building, sometimes called the County Building, is home to various offices for Cook County.

About Chicago City Hall

Chicago City Hall is a large, 11-story building. It was designed by the architectural firm Holabird & Roche. The building has a "classical revival" style. This means it looks like grand old buildings from ancient Greece or Rome, often with big columns. The building was officially opened on February 27, 1911.

Where is it Located?

The City Hall building is on a city block in downtown Chicago. It is surrounded by four streets: Randolph Street, LaSalle Street, Washington Street, and Clark Street. This central location makes it easy for people to visit the city government.

A Special Green Roof

One interesting feature of Chicago City Hall is its roof garden. This "green roof" helps the environment in several ways. It helps keep the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It also helps manage rainwater and provides a nice green space in the middle of the city.
