Chico's Tacos is a very popular local restaurant chain in El Paso, Texas. It was started on July 4, 1953, by Joe Mora, who was a boxing promoter. Many people in El Paso think of Chico's Tacos as a special part of their city. It's probably the most famous restaurant there!
This restaurant has even been on TV shows like Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Comedian Gabriel Iglesias also talked about it in his stand-up show I'm not Fat... I'm Fluffy. Chico's Tacos is famous for its unique rolled tacos served in a special tomato soup-like sauce. People also love its low prices.
Besides tacos, the menu includes hamburgers, French fries, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Employees sometimes call grilled cheese sandwiches "grillos." They also serve special round hot dogs on hamburger buns. The first Chico's Tacos was at 4230 Alameda Avenue. Now, there are five locations across El Paso. After Joe Mora passed away in 1992, his children continued to run the restaurants.

What Makes Chico's Tacos Special?
The Famous Tacos
The most famous dish at Chico's Tacos is a paper tray with three rolled tacos. These are also called flautas. They come covered in a special tomato soup-like sauce. Shredded cheese is sprinkled on top.
The way to eat them is unique. You pick up one taco from the sauce. Then, use a fork to scoop some melted cheese onto it before taking a bite. Most people order either a single order (three tacos) or a double order (six tacos). Some fans even order two single orders instead of one double. They do this to get the best amount of cheese for their tacos!
Other Unique Menu Items
Chico's Tacos is also known for its unusual hot dogs. Unlike most hot dogs in America, these are served on a hamburger bun. They have two hot dog pieces sliced in half lengthwise. These are topped with chili, mustard, and pickles.
The restaurant also serves crinkle-cut fries. Many people say these fries taste best when dipped in Chico's special tomato sauce. Adding some cheese on top of the fries is also a popular choice.
