The Chief Minister of Mizoram is like the main leader or "top boss" of the government in the Indian state of Mizoram. Think of them as the captain of the state's team!
According to India's rules, the Governor is the official head of the state. But the Chief Minister is the one who actually holds the power and makes most of the decisions.
After elections for the Mizoram Legislative Assembly (which is like the state's parliament), the Governor usually asks the political party that won the most seats to form the government. The Governor then officially appoints the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister works with a group of other ministers, called the Council of Ministers. They all work together and are responsible to the Assembly. As long as the Chief Minister has the support of the Assembly, they can stay in their job for five years. There's no limit to how many times someone can be Chief Minister.
Since 1972, five different people have served as Chief Minister of Mizoram. The very first one was CH. Chhunga. Lal Thanhawla has been Chief Minister for the longest time, over 21 years in total, across five different terms. The person currently holding the job is Lalduhoma from the Zoram People's Movement. He started his role on December 8, 2023.
