Mizoram is a beautiful state located in Northeast India. Like other states in India, Mizoram has a special leader called a Governor. The Governor is chosen by the President of India and acts as the President's representative in the state. This article lists all the people who have served as Governor of Mizoram. Currently, V. K. Singh is the Governor of Mizoram, and he started his role on January 16, 2025.
What Does a Governor Do?
The Governor of a state has many important jobs and powers. They help manage the state and make sure laws are followed. Here are the main types of powers a Governor has:
- Executive powers: These powers are about running the state government. The Governor makes important appointments and can remove certain officials.
- Legislative powers: These powers are about making laws. The Governor works with the state's law-making body, like the Vidhan Sabha.
- Discretionary powers: These are special powers the Governor can use based on their own judgment in certain situations.
Lieutenant Governors of Mizoram
Before Mizoram became a full state in 1987, it was a Union Territory. During that time, it was led by a Lieutenant Governor. S.J. Das was the administrator of Mizoram from January 21, 1972, to April 23, 1972. After him, these people served as Lieutenant Governors:
