Ved Prakash Marwah (born September 15, 1934 – died June 5, 2020) was an important Indian official. He started his career as a police officer. After he retired from the police force, he became a governor for three different states in India. These states were Manipur, Mizoram, and Jharkhand. He passed away in Goa when he was 85 years old, after being in the hospital for about three weeks.

Early Life and Education
Ved Prakash Marwah was born in Peshawar, which was part of British India at the time. Today, Peshawar is in Pakistan. His father's name was Faqirchand Marwah. After India was divided in 1947, his family moved to India.
He went to college at St. Stephens College. He later became the president of the college's alumni association, which is a group for former students. He also studied Public Administration at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. This helped him learn how to manage public services and government.
Career in Police Service
Ved Marwah was a member of the Indian Police Service. This is a special group of officers who work to keep law and order in India. He worked in the police force for 36 years.
During his police career, he held several important jobs:
- From 1985 to 1988, he was the Commissioner of Police in Delhi. This means he was the top police officer in the city.
- From 1988 to 1990, he was the Director General of the National Security Guard. This is a special force that deals with terrorism and protects important people.
In 1989, he received a special award called the Padma Shri. This is one of the highest awards a civilian can get in India. It is given to people who have done great things for their country.
Serving as a Governor
After his police career, Ved Marwah took on new roles in government. A governor in India is like a representative of the President in a state. They oversee the state government and make sure things run smoothly.
He served as an adviser to the governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar. This means he gave advice and helped them with their duties.
He also served as the governor for three different states:
- He was the Governor of Manipur from 1999 to 2003.
- He was the Governor of Mizoram from 2000 to 2001.
- He was the Governor of Jharkhand from 2003 to 2004.
Besides these roles, he was also a professor at the Centre for Policy Research. He was also the president of the Centre for Policy Studies in New Delhi. These are places where people study and discuss important government policies.
Later Life and Passing
Ved Marwah passed away on June 5, 2020. He had a long and important career serving the people of India.
