Justice Mandagadde Rama Jois (born July 27, 1931 – died February 16, 2021) was an important person in India. He was a judge and a politician. He served as a member of the Rajya Sabha, which is like one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. He was also the governor of the states of Jharkhand and Bihar. Before that, he was the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was also a senior lawyer in the highest court of India, the Supreme Court of India.

His Early Life and Education
Rama Jois was born on July 27, 1931. His parents were Narasimha Jois and Lakshmidevamma. He was born in a village called Araga in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka, India.
He studied in Shivamogga and Bengaluru. He earned degrees in Arts (B.A.) and Law (B.L.). Later, Kuvempu University gave him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. This is a special award for his achievements.
A Talented Writer
Rama Jois was a well-known writer and historian. He wrote many books about law, including books on how the government works and the history of law in India.
His most famous work is a two-volume book called "Legal and Constitutional History of India." This book is used as a textbook for law students. Another important book he wrote is "Seeds of Modern Public Law in Ancient Indian Jurisprudence." He also wrote books like "Historic Legal Battle" and "Dharma - The Global Ethic." He made complex ideas about law and ancient Indian values easy for everyone to understand.

Rama Jois was also put in jail in Bengaluru. He was in prison with other famous leaders like A. B. Vajpayee and L. K. Advani. He was connected with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.
Standing Up for What's Right
Justice Rama Jois once gave up his position as a judge in the Karnataka High Court. He did this to protest what he felt was an injustice. He believed he was unfairly overlooked for a position as a Supreme Court Judge.
His Family
Justice Rama Jois was married to Smt. Vimala. They had two children, a son and a daughter, and three grandchildren. He lived in Bengaluru, India. His son, M. R. Shailendra, and his daughter, M. R. Tara, are both lawyers in Bengaluru.
His Passing
Justice Rama Jois passed away on February 16, 2021. He died from a heart attack at his home in Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, India. He was 89 years old. His last ceremonies were held at a Hindu burial ground in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru.
