Childebert III (born around 678 or 679 – died April 23, 711) was a king of the Franks. He was also known as Childebert the Just. His father was Theuderic III and his mother was Chrothildis. He ruled as the sole king from 694 to 711.
Even though he was king, Childebert III was mostly a "puppet king." This means someone else, like the powerful mayor of the palace, Pepin of Heristal, made most of the big decisions. However, some old records show that Childebert made his own fair choices in legal cases. He even made decisions against Pepin's powerful family.

Who Was King Childebert III?
Childebert III was a member of the Merovingian dynasty. This was a family that ruled the Franks for a long time. He was called "the Just" because of his fair decisions in legal matters. Some old writings describe him as a "famous man" and a "glorious lord."
Family Life and Home
Childebert III had a son named Dagobert. This son later became King Dagobert III. It's also possible he had another son named Chlothar IV, but we are not sure. Childebert spent almost all his life at a royal home near the Oise River.
Important Events During His Reign
One important event happened in 708, during Childebert's rule. A religious leader named Saint Aubert founded a famous monastery called Mont-Saint-Michel. This beautiful place was built on an island and is still very well-known today.
The End of His Reign
Childebert III died on April 23, 711. After his death, some parts of southern Gaul (which is now France) started to become more independent. These areas included Burgundy, Aquitaine, and Provence. Childebert was buried in a church called St. Stephen at Choisy-au-Bac, near Compiègne.
