History of Chili's Restaurants
Chili's first restaurant opened in 1975 in Dallas, Texas. It was in a building that used to be a post office. The idea was to create a relaxed restaurant. It would serve different kinds of hamburgers at good prices.
The restaurant became very popular. By the early 1980s, there were 28 Chili's locations. They all had a similar look, inspired by the Southwest. In 1983, Larry Lavine sold Chili's to a restaurant expert named Norman E. Brinker.
What's on the Chili's Menu?
Chili's serves American food. They also offer Tex-Mex cuisine dishes. These include tasty items like shrimp tacos, quesadillas, and fajitas.
Besides their main menu, Chili's has special menus. These include options for people with allergies. They also have choices for those who prefer vegetarian meals.
Chili's Advertising Campaigns
Chili's is famous for its "Baby Back Ribs" jingle. The song was created to advertise their baby back ribs. It was written by Guy Bommarito. The catchy tune often gets stuck in people's heads.
In 2004, a magazine called Advertising Age said it was one of the top songs that get stuck in your head. The jingle was brought back in 2017. It was updated to promote Chili's new menu.
In 2024, Chili's got a license for a video game called BurgerTime. They created their own online game called Chili’s Big Smasher BurgerTime. Players could control Joe ChiliHead, the mascot. They tried to make burgers and could even win free burgers for life.
Chili's advertising campaigns have been very successful. In September 2024, the company announced that its sales had increased. This showed that their ads were working well.

Legal Challenges Faced by Chili's
In 2008, a Chili's restaurant in Australia faced legal issues. They were fined for problems with how they paid their workers. They also did not follow rules about fair work. Because of these issues and low sales, all Chili's locations in Australia closed.
In July 2024, a music group called the Beastie Boys filed a lawsuit. They claimed that Chili's parent company, Brinker International, used their song "Sabotage" in ads without permission. The group said this started around November 2022.
