Chinatown MRT Station facts for kids
Chinatown MRT Station (NE4/DT19) is a busy train station in Singapore. It's special because it connects two different train lines: the North East MRT Line and the Downtown MRT Line. This station was the first one where both lines were run by the same company, SBS Transit.
Right now, Chinatown is the last stop on the Downtown MRT Line. But soon, when the Fort Canning MRT Station is finished, it will become the new end of the line.
When Did the Station Open?
- The North East Line part of the station opened on 20 June 2003.
- The Downtown Line part started running later, on 22 December 2013.
What Are the Next Stations?
If you're traveling on the North East MRT Line:
- The station before Chinatown is Outram Park (NE3/EW16/TE17).
- The station after Chinatown is Clarke Quay (NE5).
If you're traveling on the Downtown MRT Line:
- The station before Chinatown is Telok Ayer (DT18).
- Chinatown is currently the last stop on this line.
