What are the Downtown Line Stages?
The Downtown Line is built in stages. This means parts of the line open at different times. Each stage adds more stations. This helps more people use the train system.
Stage 1: The First Part
Stage 1 of the Downtown Line opened on December 22, 2013. This part of the line has six stations. It runs from Bugis to Chinatown. This stage connects important areas in the city center. It makes it easier to get to places like Promenade and Bayfront.
Stage 2: Connecting the West
Stage 2 opened on December 27, 2015. This stage added 12 more stations. It stretches from Bukit Panjang to Botanic Gardens. This part of the line helps people from the western side of Singapore. It connects them to the city. You can change trains at stations like Newton and Little India.
Stage 3: Going East
Stage 3 of the Downtown Line opened in 2017. This stage added 16 new stations. It goes from Fort Canning to Expo. This part of the line helps people in the eastern parts of Singapore. It connects them to the rest of the network. Key stations include MacPherson and Tampines.
Stage 4: Future Plans
Stage 4 is still being planned. It will add two more stations. These stations are Xilin and Sungei Bedok. This stage will make the Downtown Line even longer. It will connect to the Thomson-East Coast Line at Sungei Bedok.
