Bugis MRT Station (also known as EW12/DT14) is a busy underground train station in Singapore. It's a special interchange station, which means you can switch between two different train lines here: the East West Line and the Downtown Line. This station is located where the Downtown Core and Rochor areas meet.

Bugis Station is super convenient! It's close to many cool places like Bugis+, Sim Lim Square, Bugis Village, and Bugis Junction, which are full of shops and places to eat. You can also easily walk to the National Library and the historic Kampong Glam area. Plus, many private art schools, like Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and LASALLE College of the Arts, are nearby. It's also just a five-minute walk to Jalan Besar Station on the Downtown Line. This station is really important for people who need to switch from the East West Line to the Downtown Line.

A Look Back: History of Bugis Station

The part of Bugis station that serves the East West Line was built right next to Bugis Junction mall. It even has a direct path connecting to the mall! This section of the station looks quite similar to the nearby Lavender station.

The Downtown Line part of Bugis station was built on the spot where an old building called The New 7th Storey Hotel used to be. This section officially opened on 22 December 2013. For a while, Bugis was the very last stop (the northern end) of the Downtown Line. But on 27 December 2015, the line was extended, and Bukit Panjang became the new last stop.

Because the platforms at Bugis Station are quite far apart, it's one of only four stations in Singapore that has special moving walkways, called travelators, to help you get around faster. The other stations with travelators are Dhoby Ghaut, Botanic Gardens, and Serangoon.
