This means you can switch between two different train lines here. These lines are the North South MRT Line and the Downtown MRT Line. Long ago, this station was known as Newton Circus.

Newton MRT Station has been serving commuters for many years. It first opened its doors to the public in 1987.

• 12 December 1987: The station started operating as part of the North South Line.
• 27 December 2015: The Downtown Line was added, making Newton an interchange station. This made it easier for people to travel around Singapore.

• If you are coming from the south, the station before Newton (NS21) is Novena (NS20).
