Chloë Agnew, born on June 9, 1989, is a talented singer from Ireland. She is famous for being one of the first members of the popular music group Celtic Woman.

Chloë Agnew's Early Life and Start in Music

Chloë Agnew grew up in Knocklyon, County Dublin, Ireland. Her mother is the Irish entertainer Adele King, and her father is David Agnew, who plays the oboe. Chloë lived with her mother and younger sister, Naomi.

She first appeared on television when she was just four weeks old, on her mother's TV show. Later, she sang on the show when she was six years old. Chloë went to Notre Dame des Missions Junior School and then to Alexandra College, a girls' school.

In 1998, Chloë represented Ireland in a singing competition in Cairo. She won the Grand Prix at the First International Children's Song Competition with a song called The Friendship Tree. After this, she started performing in pantomimes at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin for four years.

In 1999, she was part of The Young Messiah. This was a modern version of Handel's famous music piece, Messiah. In this show, she played a child and used sign language.

Chloë Agnew's Singing Career

Chloë Agnew is a soprano singer, which means she has a high vocal range. She has sung in many languages, including English, Irish, Latin, Italian, and German.

In 2000, when she was 11, Chloë wanted to help children in Afghanistan. She asked director David Downes to help her record a song. Together, they recorded Angel of Mercy for an album called This Holy Christmas Night. This project raised over £20,000 for the Afghan Children's Charity Fund in 2001. In the same year, she joined the Christ Church Cathedral Girls' Choir and sang with them for three years.

In 2002, Chloë signed with Celtic Collections. With David Downes' support, she recorded her first album, Chloë. Two years later, in 2004, she released her second album, Chloë: Walking in the Air. She also made a DVD to go with her second album.

Joining Celtic Woman

In 2004, Chloë became the youngest member of the group Celtic Woman. They performed at The Helix in Dublin. Chloë has been on 14 albums with Celtic Woman. She recorded songs in many languages and traveled around the world on several tours with the group.

In 2009, an Italian singer named Alessandro Rinella invited Chloë to sing with him on his first album. In 2012, Chloë Agnew was named Female Vocalist of the Year at the Irish Music Awards.

On August 5, 2013, Celtic Woman announced that Chloë would be taking a break. She wanted to work on her own music projects. Another singer, Derry-born Mairéad Carlin, took her place in the group.

Solo Projects and Return to Celtic Woman

After leaving Celtic Woman, Chloë was a special guest on the Celtic Thunder cruise. She also performed with former Celtic Thunder member Paul Byrom. She was a special guest at Lisa Kelly's concerts, "The Voice of Ireland" and "A Celtic Christmas." Chloë also performed with Ethan Bortnick and another former Celtic Thunder member, Damian McGinty.

In 2015, Chloë performed a concert with her boyfriend, Dermot Kiernan. American singer-songwriters Kate Steinway and Marissa Lauren also joined them. This concert took place at the LA Songwriting school.

On January 22, 2020, it was announced that Chloë Agnew would return to Celtic Woman. She filled in for Éabha McMahon during the US Celebration Tour. However, the tour was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 21, 2020, Chloë announced she would rejoin the group for the rescheduled Celebration Tour. She also participated in the Postcards from Ireland Tour, album, and TV special/DVD. On August 19, 2022, Chloë announced she would take another break from the group. She wanted to focus on her solo music again.

Thoughts on Irish Music

In an interview with Beliefnet, Chloë Agnew talked about Irish music. She said that Irish music is a big part of their culture from birth. She explained that Irish people always turned to music, even during hard times. They have songs for everything, like drinking, sadness, or famine. She remembered a song from her childhood that was for milking cows.

Chloë Agnew is a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She often says prayers before going on stage to help calm her nerves.
