Chloë Agnew (born 9 June 1989) is an Irish singer. She is famous for being an original member of the popular Celtic music group Celtic Woman.

Chloë's Early Life and First Performances

Chloë Agnew was born in Knocklyon, Ireland, on June 9, 1989. Her mother, Adele King, is an Irish entertainer. Her father, David Agnew, plays the oboe. Chloë lived with her mother and younger sister, Naomi.

She first appeared on TV when she was just four weeks old! Later, she sang on her mother's show at age six. Chloë went to Notre Dame des Missions Junior School. After that, she attended Alexandra College, a girls' school.

In 1998, Chloë won a big award. She represented Ireland at the First International Children's Song Competition in Cairo. Her song was called The Friendship Tree. After this, she started performing in pantomime shows. These shows were at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin for four years.

In 1999, she was in The Young Messiah. This was a modern version of Handel's famous Messiah. She played a child and used sign language in the show.

Chloë's Amazing Music Career

Chloë Agnew is a talented singer with a soprano voice. This means she can sing very high notes. She has sung in many languages. These include English, Irish, Latin, Italian, and German.

How Chloë Helped Others with Music

In 2000, when Chloë was 11, she wanted to help children in Afghanistan. She asked director David Downes to help her record a song. With his help, she recorded Angel of Mercy. This song was for the album This Holy Christmas Night. It raised over £20,000 for the Afghan Children's Charity Fund in 2001. That same year, she joined the Christ Church Cathedral Girls' Choir. She sang with them for three years.

Chloë's First Albums

In 2002, Chloë signed with Celtic Collections. With David Downes' support, she recorded her first album. It was simply called Chloë. In 2004, she released her second album, Chloë: Walking in the Air. She also made a DVD for her second album. It came out in Europe in 2004 and in North America in 2007.

Joining Celtic Woman

In 2004, Chloë became part of the group Celtic Woman. She was the youngest member at the time. They performed at The Helix in Dublin. Chloë has been on 14 albums with the group. She recorded songs in many languages. She also went on several world tours with them.

In 2009, an Italian singer named Alessandro Rinella asked Chloë to sing with him. She sang on his first album. In 2012, Chloë was named Female Vocalist of the Year. This was at the Irish Music Awards.

Taking a Break and Returning

On August 5, 2013, Celtic Woman announced Chloë was taking a break. She wanted to work on her own music. Another singer, Mairéad Carlin, took her place.

After leaving Celtic Woman, Chloë was a special guest on the Celtic Thunder cruise. She also performed with former Celtic Thunder member Paul Byrom. They were special guests at Lisa Kelly's concerts. These concerts were called The Voice of Ireland and A Celtic Christmas. Chloë also performed with Ethan Bortnick and Damian McGinty.

In 2015, Chloë performed a concert with her boyfriend, Dermot Kiernan. American singers Kate Steinway and Marissa Lauren also joined them. This concert was at the LA Songwriting school.

On January 22, 2020, it was announced that Chloë was rejoining Celtic Woman. She filled in for Éabha McMahon on the US Celebration Tour. However, the tour was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 21, 2020, Chloë confirmed she would rejoin for the rescheduled tour. She also took part in the Postcards from Ireland Tour. She was also on the Postcards from Ireland album and TV special/DVD. On August 19, 2022, Chloë announced she would take another break from the group. She wanted to focus on her solo projects again.

Chloë's Thoughts on Irish Music

Chloë once talked about Irish music in an interview. She said:

Irish music was bred into us from the day we are born. Looking back to our ancestors and our heritage, it was always in our culture. Even through the hardest of times Irish people always turned to music. They have a song for everything – for drinking, for depression, for famine. I remember a song growing up that was for milking the cows.

Chloë is a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She often says prayers before going on stage. This helps her "Calm her nerves."
