What is the Color Chocolate?
The color we call "chocolate" is usually the deep brown shade of milk chocolate. This is the most common type of chocolate people eat. It's a warm, inviting color that reminds many people of comfort and sweetness.
Where Does the Color Come From?
Chocolate itself comes from cocoa beans. These beans grow inside large pods on cacao trees. After the beans are harvested, they go through a special process. They are fermented, dried, roasted, and ground up. This process turns them into the chocolate we know. The color of the final product depends on how it's made.
Chocolate vs. Cocoa Brown
You might also hear about a color called "cocoa brown." This color is a bit different from the deep chocolate brown. The "web color" named "chocolate" is actually closer to the color of an unripe cocoa bean pod. It's not the color of the processed chocolate bar at all!
The color "cocoa brown" was first recorded in the English language in 1925. Sometimes, people might even call this lighter shade "light chocolate."
