Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros (born April 4, 1928 – died January 6, 2016) was a famous Cuban trumpeter. People called him "Chocolate." He played his trumpet with many well-known musicians. These included Arsenio Rodríguez, Eddie Palmieri, and Cachao. His special way of playing Afro-Cuban trumpet music made him very popular. He also recorded many albums during his long career.

Alfredo Armenteros was born on April 4, 1928. His hometown was Santa Clara, in Cuba. He started playing music in a band called Conjunto Los Astros. This band was led by René Álvarez, a singer and songwriter. Soon after, he played with the famous musician Arsenio Rodríguez.

People started calling him "Chocolate" by accident. Someone thought he was Kid Chocolate, a famous boxer. After the Cuban Revolution, Armenteros moved to New York City. He lived there for the rest of his life.

Armenteros played with many other great musicians. Some of them were Tito Puente, Machito, Wynton Marsalis, and Johnny Pacheco. He was also a member of the group La Sonora Matancera from 1977 to 1980. Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros passed away on January 6, 2016. He was 87 years old.

Music and Albums

"Chocolate" Armenteros released several albums as a solo artist. His first solo album was Chocolate... En El Rincon in 1976. He also released albums like Y Sigo Con Mi Son and Monsieur Chocolate Prefiero El Son.

Besides his own albums, he played on many recordings with other artists. He worked with Generoso Jiménez on the album Ritmo. He also played with Mongo Santamaría and La Lupe. Armenteros was featured on albums by Orchestra Harlow and Eddie Palmieri. He also recorded with Cachao and Machito. His trumpet playing added a special touch to all these recordings.
