Chocolate Bayou is a small, unincorporated community in eastern Brazoria County, Texas, United States. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2000, about 60 people lived here. It's part of the larger Greater Houston metropolitan area.

History of Chocolate Bayou
Chocolate Bayou is named after a nearby water channel, also called Chocolate Bayou. This area was first given as land to Stephen F. Austin and James Franklin Perry. Perry's sister, Emily Austin Perry, ran a large farm called Peach Point Plantation here. They grew crops like cotton and sugar.
Early Developments
In 1911, Chocolate Bayou got its first post office. Just three years later, in 1914, a train line called the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway started serving the area. At that time, about 25 people lived in Chocolate Bayou. There was also a general store and two businesses that shipped hay.
Oil Discovery and Population Changes
A big change happened in 1946 when oil was discovered in the area. However, the post office closed in 1950, and the population dropped to 50 people. By 1966, the last business in Chocolate Bayou closed down. The community's highest population was 150 residents in 1920. By 1990 and 2000, the population was 60 people.

Chocolate Bayou is located in eastern Brazoria County. You can find it on Farm to Market Road 2917. This road is between Texas State Highway 35 and FM 2403.
