The Chone River is an important river in Ecuador, a country located in South America. It flows through the Manabí Province. This river starts high up in the mountains. It then makes its way to the Pacific Ocean. The Chone River empties into the Bay of Caráquez. This bay is very close to the town of Bahía de Caráquez.
The Esperanza Dam
The Chone River is home to a large dam. It is called the Esperanza Dam. In Spanish, its name is Represa de Esperanza. This dam was finished being built in 1985. Its main purpose is to help people by providing water. It gives water for farming, which is called irrigation. The dam also helps to stop floods when there is a lot of rain. It does not make electricity, but it is very important for managing the river's water.
