The Chonta mountain range is a group of tall mountains in the Andes of Peru. It is located in the Huancavelica Region. This mountain range stretches for about 50 kilometers (31 miles) from north to south.

The name "Chonta" might come from the Aymara language word chunta, meaning "prolonged" or "lengthened". It could also come from the Quechua language word chunta, which refers to a type of palm tree.

Where is the Chonta Mountain Range?

The Chonta mountain range is found in the central part of Peru. It lies within two important areas: the Castrovirreyna Province and the Huancavelica Province. These provinces are part of the larger Huancavelica Region.

The Andes mountains are a very long mountain range that runs along the western side of South America. The Chonta range is just one part of this huge system. Its location, between 12°37' and 13°07'S latitude and 75°00' and 75°30'W longitude, means it's in a high-altitude area.
