Chozas de Canales is a small village and municipality in Spain. It is located in the province of Toledo. This area is part of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha.
The village has grown quite a bit recently. Better roads connect it to Madrid, the capital city. Because of this, Chozas de Canales doubled in size between 1995 and 2005. Many new houses have been built.
Today, the village has a supermarket and a restaurant. But the older part of the village still feels like stepping back in time. It has a strong community spirit. The new houses look very modern. They are quite different from the traditional old village homes. The center of Chozas de Canales keeps its old charm.
The village is built around a small chapel in the center. This chapel is across from the village square. A church sits on a hill, looking down over the village. Many people who live here travel to Madrid for work. Others work in farming. The village even makes its own wine called Rocanales. This wine comes from a local winery called Bodega Cooperativa Santa Maria Magdalena. Miles of farmland surround the village.

History of Chozas de Canales
How the Village Land Changed Hands
Long ago, in the 1600s, a powerful person named Don Pedro Coloma and Escolano bought land. This land included the areas of Canales and Regachuelo. It also included the villages of Chozas and Yunclillos.
Don Pedro Coloma was later given the special title of marquis. In 1680, he also became the viscount of Chozas de Canales. He owned these lands and others he received or bought.
The Land Returns to the Church
By the year 1770, Don Pedro's family had no one to inherit the lands. So, the lands went back to a church group. This group was called the "cabildo de racioneros beneficiados y curas" of Santa Maria.
Towards the end of the 1700s, the marquis's old palace was fixed up. This shows that the history of the village is quite old and interesting.
